Simplified Handpiece Maintenance
Guidelines to follow before each patient use

Scrub: Remove the handpiece from coupler or tubing and remove bur. Scrub the handpiece with a fine wire brush or soft brush under running water to remove "bio burden". Wipe and dry with paper towel.

Spray: Using the correct lubrication tools, spray MK-dent Premium Spray Lubricant & Cleaner into the drive line or the hole. Spray for approximately 2 seconds.

Once a week the spindle of the handpiece has to be lubricated

Expel: Remove handpiece from nozzle and insert a bur. Loosely cover head with paper towel. Run the handpiece to expel out debris and excess lubricant for 5 to 10 seconds. This should be done at the control unit in the operatory or at the purging station in the sterilization room.

Wipe with alcohol to remove excess lubricant: Wipe down the exterior of the handpiece with a 2X2 lightly dampened with alcohol. Use pure rubbing alcohol only, many over the counter "alcohol wipes" have other solutions added to them, this can cause spotting of the exterior and severe damage to the internal parts of the handpiece.

Sterilize: Insert into pouch, bag or wrap. Follow sterilizer manufacturers' instructions for autoclave/chemiclave. (Most products are sterilizable at temperatures of 135 degrees Celsius/275 degrees Fahrenheit.) Never remove components from sterilizer until drying cycle has ended.

Allow to cool: Remove the handpiece from the sterilizer and let them cool to room temperature. Running "Hot" handpieces will severely reduce the life of the turbine.

Don't Re-Lubricate! With MK-dent premium handpiece lubricant and cleaner, you only lubricate once.

Caution:
Never wipe or spray with surface disinfectants
Never submerge in water
Never place handpiece into the Ultrasonic Cleaner

  • Dry thoroughly.
  • Place handpiece and swivel in sterilization bag. Do not exceed 135 degrees Celsius.
  • Remove handpiece from sterilizer after drying cycle ends and allow to cool in bag.
